This is the best piece of satire I’ve seen addressing the inconsistencies in Republicans’ conceptions (haha!) of personal liberty. We need to keep forcing the discussion into places that clearly demonstrate the Republican party’s institutional disregard for women’s rights and choices. Samantha Bee is brilliant at the end.

– Ann Romney at the RNC - Right Turn - The Washington Post via robot-heart-politics, who writes: Anyone who buys for a second that Mitt Romney is the culmination of nothing but bootstraps—that any Joe Schmo from a middle class family could have done what Mitt Romney did career-wise so quickly and so...

A thank you note for Todd Akin - Feministing →
I want to thank Mr. Akin for his remarks. I want to thank him for demonstrating that the anti-choice movement is so often divorced from scientific facts, like when they claim that the uterus contains a magical anti-rapist semen force field, or when they claim that there’s a causal relationship between abortion and breast cancer. It is not, in fact, “really rare” for rape to result in pregnancy,...

– Rep. Todd Akin, apologizing for “misspeaking” about whether or not he believes rape women can get pregnant. If you’re a man and you’re running for political office, take a note. THAT IS ALL YOU EVER NEED TO FUCKING SAY. Don’t talk about things you actually don’t...

Sandra Fluke: Paul Ryan's record on women's issues... →
Since Rep. Paul Ryan was chosen as Mitt Romney’s running mate, I’ve sent out tweets noting that by picking Ryan, Romney has doubled down on his dangerous stance on women’s health. I included links to articles describing Ryan’s abysmal record on the issue. This being Twitter, supporters of Romney and Ryan responded. But rather than defend Ryan’s record,  they instead accusing me of making it up....

My American Dream Sounds Like The White Stripes →
Instead of rebuilding the large factories that were almost always disconnected to the health of the land and the air, many Detroiters are focused on making something instead of manufacturing something. For a long time I’d been trying to visualize actual, sustainable living in urban cities in this era of economic collapse. Creative solutions that don’t seek bigger rooms, or endless...
